Melodic Tech Death is a bit lost in me these days since I started this in 2018. I fell out with tech death, to an extent, since last year. Every now and then bands pop up and give me hope they’re not a necro-clone. Nashville’s Deathless is all that with a side of shred or twenty. The band is preparing to release their monstrous effort “The Clairvoyant” February 9th and it’s pretty good. The one thing on the genre is well…..it’s not heavy enough sometimes and too focused on shred and melody. Well honestly it’s heavy AND melodically focused. There’s some pretty busy guitar riffs and guitar solos that were conjured by a wizard on “The Clairvoyant”. As a fellow guitarist I was thoroughly pleased with those spells.
I’m a fan of lower growls and gutturals brutal death metal style. The vocals on this upcoming release are a little higher than what I enjoy. They aren’t annoying or too high pitched for me, and I actually enjoyed them each time through the album. I like the dynamics in them between the mid range and higher range, it wasn’t repetitive which is a huge plus.
Also, the tracks are pretty concise. Some tech bands are a bit too adventurous when it comes to song length and their passages. 4 minutes is the magic number for a song unless you’re Dream Theater or Opeth. Deathless really crammed a lot into their songs and it shows. It takes a few listens to digest it all but gets better each time musically speaking. The rhythm section compliments the insane guitar work seamlessly chugging along.
The band has some merch available including a hoodie for preorder, along with a CD of this upcoming album. Go check it out if you’re a shredder! This record won’t let you down and isn’t a long. drawn out tech opus. It releases February 9th you’re going to want to mark this on our calendar.
