Album Review

Yuval Ron- Somewhere In This Universe, Somebody Hits A Drum

Yuval Ron has a new album out titled “Somewhere In This Universe, Somebody Hits A Drum”.  It’s definitely different…..and we do different here at TMR.  It’s an instrumental record (for the most part) based on well, you can tell……space.  It’s a cinematic experience like you’re listening to a movie soundtrack.  Keep an open mind, and don’t go into the assumption it’s just another album because it’s not.  Treat it more like an experience….it’s quite an interesting one.

Don’t expect anything normal, but then again….do you when it comes to progressive music?  I mean, there’s dudes wearing spacesuits….so that answers your question(s).  If that isn’t interesting enough, the legendary drummer Marco Minneman played drums on the album!  There’s some ridiculously good keyboard work on the album as well.  The influence of classic prog is strong in this album……King Crimson is definitely a big factor here.  If you love creepy, interesting and different when it comes to the genre, Yuval Ron is your ticket!

Here we go again with the space shit…..

In all seriousness, this album is pretty cool.  The concept album idea can be pretty exciting and scary at the same time.  In this case Ron did a good job at holding onto the magic and not failing the mission.  It’s good to see prog artists not go for the most complex album they can possibly make, but something totally out of the ordinary.  His guitar playing amplifies the experience of this unique offering.  If you are looking for something different, original and out of the blue definitely listen to this album.  You can listen to “Somewhere In This Universe, Somebody Hits A Drum” in the player below.  Share your experience with us if you feel inclined to do so!  He also has some cool things up for sale on his bandcamp too if you feel like checking it out.
