German brutal tech legends Defeated Sanity are back with another mind bending and brutal release “Chronicles Of Lunacy”. The previous release “The Sanguinary Impetus” may have been their best output yet. This certainly falls in its footsteps and is wildly collaborative. The band officially welcomed in Vaughn Stoffey on guitar and his talents were put on display. He clearly gets the sound and continues the legacy masterfully.

Defeated Sanity has always been uniquely brutal and talented beyond words. My favorite album “Disposal Of The Dead” is a proof of that. The first half is their classic brutal tech and the other half very progressive called “Dharmata”. You can’t go wrong with any of their album and starts with their mastermind Lile Gruber. His father was a huge part of the sound when the band started out playing guitar. Since his unfortunate passing, that sound has carried over for decades in Defeated Sanity.

Gruber has kept this beast running and added bassist Jacob Schmidt along the way. The duo put out some awesome albums then decided to keep vocalist Josh Welshman around. Now that there’s a stable lineup and no fill ins needed to tour, the guys are putting out a crushing album. “Chronicles Of Sanctity” is a brutal and unique effort. Gruber’s jazzy drumming and brutal style is a tasteful approach. All the cool rhythmic ideas and sections they came up make way for the unique experience of Defeated Sanity.

Their technical passages are super tasty and not insane like Archspire per say. Defeated Sanity has always been in a league of their own. Colin Marston produces this album and did such a phenomenal job. That was an amazing choice and it showed in the crisp production. No sacrifices were made in their sound and Marston brought their sound to new levels.

“Chronicles Of Lunacy” is a great collaboration of ideas from a great band. Defeated Sanity keeps pushing themselves and keep succeeding. This record is another relentlessly brutal and technical addition to their impressive catalogue. It releases November 22nd.
