Brutal female supergroup Emasculator is dropping its debut release digitally October 25th. “The Disfigured And The Divine” is out on CD via their label New Standard Elite. It’s an homage to 2000’s brutal death metal ala Deeds Of Flesh and Disgorge. The riffs are fresh, brutal and engaging. Mallika (Unfathomable Ruination, ex Abnormality) is my personal highlight of the band. I’ve always loved her voice. Man that classic dry sounding, brutal low of hers I can never get sick of.
The latest addition to the band Cierra White makes an impressive debut on drums. Very heavy hitting, clean and groovy. There’s some solid fills that doesn’t interrupt their momentum. Josh Welshman of Defeated Sanity did the mixing and mastering of this release. It sounds very sharp and focused.
Emasculator is bringing back that 2000’s brutality strong on this release and I’m all for it. I love 90’s and 2000’s brutal death metal. They made their live debut at Texas Domination Fest. It’s an impressive feat with band members throughout the USA and Mallika living in Czechia. I’m curious to see how often the gals play out.
The cover artwork – painted by vocalist and artist Mallika Sundaramurthy – is a portrait of the Hindu goddess Chhinnamasta.
“She is seen making the ultimate sacrifice for others,” says Sundaramurthy of the concept behind her artwork. “She has severed her own head and is feeding her followers with her life force, her own blood. In giving, she is also receiving nourishment. She has overcome death and will soon return her head to its place. She is standing on a love-making couple, meaning she is above the life-procreation-death cycle. She can also be interpreted as a mother figure who sacrifices for her children, as mothers sacrifice and even risk their lives for their babies during childbirth.”
This EP goes hard and shouldn’t be slept on. It’s a well written, heavy and monstrous debut.
