Misery Index- Rituals Of Power

Man oh man, did Misery Index put out yet another great extreme metal release.  Baltimore’s death/metal grind act will blow your minds, once again. I kinda feel like Misery Index is a great death metal/grind band that is not on enough people’s radars, and gets passed on a lot.  These guys have consistently been putting out great releases since well…..their existence as a band.  The band has released a few singles before its official released day today March 8th…..“New Salem”, “Rituals Of Power”, and “The Choir Insivisible”.  Dive into those three great tracks while I yap about how under appreciated these cats are.

My time knowing the band has been short since the 2014 headbanger “Killing Gods” but I sure as heck dig them.  Legendary drummer Adam Jarvis is the glue that keeps this great band grooving for years and years.  As predicted, he’s a top highlight in the band’s new release.  The speeds are so varied you need to be on your game, and just listening to these songs tires me…..IF i could drum.

Here’s a playthrough of the title track if you’re not convinced of how amazing Adam Jarvis is.

Jason Netherton’s bass playing is absolutely perfect along side Jarvis, oh and let’s talk about his voice.  I love consistency in gutturals…..Jason has that.  His voice is basically perfect for extreme metal.  His mid ranged growl isn’t too low, and isn’t that high at all.  I think these two musicians are huge vocal points for the sound of Misery Index……Adam’s energetic, powerful drumming and Jason’s painful gutturals bring this band’s songs to LIFE.

Jason Netherton – Bass & Vocals
Adam Jarvis – Drums
Mark Kloeppel – Guitar & Vocals
Darin Morris – Guitar
Mark and Darin are an absolute deadly combination on guitars.  They added a bit more melody on their riffs this time around, and have concocted a few stellar leads on as well. The dynamics this band have are pretty mind blowing…..and the guitar duo certainly only adds a whole shit ton of flavor to “Rituals Of Power”.
Again, Misery Index puts out really consistent albums.  Their driving rhythms, intensity and aggression are not matched by many.  It’s about time these guys got serious respect among the extreme metal scene, and “Rituals Of Power” should do that.  The album will awaken people, open their minds and also clean out the wax that’s in your ears.  Misery Index rips and should be enjoyed by all of mankind.

Under The Pledge Of Secrecy- Black Hole Mass Evolution

Want a totally wacky, heavy energetic metal band that doesn’t repeat themselves? Under The Pledge Of Secrecy has you covered! This two man metal project blends a lot of subgeneres into their own band its wild! There’s a lot of extreme metal, grindcore and mathcore influence in “Black Hole Mass Evolution”……in the end, it’s their own wild and chaotic sound.  This wild album was released all the way back in 2014, but they are working on a new album that should be out this year in 2019.  Under The Pledge Of Secrecy has been around since 2005.

Stefan K. – Vocals & Drums
Thorsten S. – Guitars & Bass

The guitar is absolutely crisp and blistering.  The varying speeds make for an interesting album, and isn’t a predictable style.  After listening to this record a few times through, I’m now extra interested in hearing what their upcoming record is going to sound like.  They’re as weird as The Dillinger Escape Plan were, and blend a lot of sounds the deeper you travel into this album.  The duo has blended a unique sound, you truly can’t categorize them……kinda like Primus, who doesn’t fit in a specific genre but once you say their name you totally know their sound.  Under The Pledge Of Secrecy is THAT unique.

The drumming is absolutely off the wall.  Considering the different speeds and tempos, it has to be difficult to keep up on the drumming end of things.  The bass is absolutely punishing on this record.  I love how the snare drum sounds on this, production wise.  It pops so loud and stands out it’s like a classic grindcore album to a tee, even some new school brutal/slamming death metal.  The band has done a stellar job crafting classic and modern extreme metal that should bridge both generations together.  Stay up to date with the band’s actions in regards to their yet to be titled 2019 release! I’m really looking forward to it!

Last Of Lucy’s Brandon Millan drops drum playthrough for “Advertent Avidity”

The Last Of Lucy’s drummer Brandon Millan released a playthrough for the band’s song “Advertent Avidity” off their latest album “Ashvattha”.  The band is working on recording new material, but that’s all we can find for now…..but at least we know the wild band is working on new music! His drum work is an absolute pleasure and got to see the band live last summer, and can confirm his insanity on the kit.  Enjoy the playthrough and don’t forget to keep tabs on the band with their eventual new music!

ByoNoiseGenerator- Neuromechanica

Wow, well RealityFade Records has another serious banger…..and a weird band, at that.  Heck, that’s what TMR strives for! This is a Russian Grindcore band….with yes, random jazz sections in between blast beats on their 15 minute album.  And NO this is not that clowncore weird crap that’s been circulating on the internet for years now! But maybe, it’s the guys that are in Clowncore? Who knows? Either way, its exhilarating and insane.  Short songs, fast tempos and random saxophone totally throw off any sense.  And then, there’s jazzy breaks after some death/grindcore sections that totally mess with your brain and emotions some more for the heck of it!

ByoNoiseGenerator is just so weird, you need to take 15 to 16 minutes out of your day to just listen to it.  The drums are insanely fun, fast, and ridiculous.  The saxophone is so random, but fits in….most of the time….I…think?  It’s such an obnoxious trip of oddities that you kinda crave more.  BNG is a very unique and original band that I’m pretty sure nobody sounds like them at all.  Your average metalhead will probably dismiss this band, but wow I was impressed.  If you love Grindcore this is your baby! But if you don’t like the random jazz and sax, then that might turn you off.  Check out this wildly entertaining album right here!

Descent- Towers of Grandiosity

Austrailian grinders Descent are releasing their debut album this Friday August 31st through Redefining Darkness Records.  It’s very enegertic, raw and straight to the point.  The band brings lots of punk and hardcore elements to the table as well.  There are lots of great bands coming out of Australia and Descent is another example of just that.

I love metal bands that don’t stick to one genre.  Descent is a multi genre metal band that really brings the heat.  The drumming is very entertaining and is probably one of my favorite highlights of the album.  The guys keep you entertained with their constant changes in speed, and when they it a pocket groove they stick to it.  Descent has already opened up for the super entertaining (and yeah I’ve see the monstrosity live) King Parrot! If that isn’t metal cred, I don’t know what is!
