Lacerate Self Titled EP

Buffalo’s grooviest and hottest trio Lacerate dropped their impressive 4 song debut recently. I got to play with these youngsters a few times with my band Morgue Terror and see them when we weren’t playing. They’re a unique group only starting to make their mark in Buffalo with dreams far beyond our little city.

Lacerate also recorded at Watchmen Studios with Doug White. They add a rock and grunge flare to their sound, which works to their advantage. They don’t pigeon hole themselves to one style but in the end they are heavy. Kaleb’s voice is John McCentee esque with a consistent low guttural. His bass playing is very dynamic. The band always waver into some instrumental sections.

They actually just debuted a new pummeling track at our Tudor Lounge show with them recently. The guitar riffs Jack comes up with are heavy and razor sharp, yet brings you back to the 90’s grunge rock era. Logan’s energetic and spirited drumming style is always a treat live.

“Lock” will be my favorite song (unless something new makes it look like child’s play) they have which starts off their self titled ep. It’s a quick (2 and a half minutes), heavy track with some nasty gutturals. The second song “Headless” brings you to another dimension with a pummeling mid section that beats you down. The third offering “Creeper” includes fun introduction that leads you into a groovy mid tempo party. The last track “Bullhead” is a unique instrumental with some mood changes again showcasing their diversity. The other good trait they have is they don’t let songs drag on, hence some short lengths.

Lacerate is a force to be reckoned with starting off with their first recording. It’s a fine start to the bands young (pun intended all of them under 21 and one in high school still) career as a band. The band is focused and primed to record again in February back at Watchmen. Go listen to them on streaming services and follow them on social media. If you live anywhere in Western New York do not hesitate to catch a live show.
