The highly underrated Anachronism is featured band of the month for April this year. I dug the debut “Orogeny” from 2018. I was blown away when I saw a woman fronting the band who has some of the nastiest gutturals from any death metal vocalist. That’s a cool trend I’m seeing in some bands and I dig it a lot. That said, the guitar work is all around phenomenal if you love extra dissonance in your death metal, and brings plenty of heaviness. Now, I didn’t know what was going on in their camp. Earlier this year they dropped an album “Meandfers” that I can’t stop listening to. It’s part of my listening every other day at the least, if not daily. It’s less riffier than the debut, but damn does it still go hard. They have found their sound and put out my favorite album of 2023, with the exception of a few others early on this year. I’ve gradually drifted away from tech death and been growing closer to dissonant heavy bands like Anachronism (big ups to Ignominy and Mithridatum too for 2023 faves all dissonant lol).
