Positive Trends of 2023
- Pit Viper returns to TMR! Yes…. our contributor took time off and came back towards the end of the year to throw out some reviews (who also started this article by the way. ) In between writing & recording for his band Cave Moth (grindcore) he contributed! There have been some solid contributors since the inception of the website. They come and go and it’s nice to see the homie back putting out his two cents digitally speaking.
- Morgue Terror! Dave started another band but this one actually lasted with the right musicians. I spent the year focusing on our debut EP and promoting, so the website took a back seat taking in another creative entity. Our debut EP drops January 5th this friday and have two singles out now if you want death metal. We have the second release almost written and record late February next year. We plan on playing out late spring for anyone that lives in or near Buffalo and Rochester. We want to eventually try getting to Syracuse and Albany maybe even the northeast USA like PA/OH (we’re gonna try but don’t hold us to it for 2024)! I’ll post streaming links, visualizer for the first song and a MUSIC VIDEO for the second song. You can preorder said upcoming EP on bandcamp too!
- New music! Duh, it’s always inevitable. A ton to check out which makes it impossible to listen to everything and I’m sure we’re gonna miss some stuff here. Lots of bands and projects pop up quickly these days no matter what music you listen to.
Negative Trends of 2023
- New music! Ironically it’s a double edged sword, with my band releasing an EP soon. Music is watered down with so many new bands popping up and solo/bedroom projects being a thing. This isnt the 70’s-90’s with less competition and a better chance of going further to make enough money to tour/be a full time band. Nowadays its so pricy to be a band not everyone can afford it to go as hard as bands from decades ago. I’m happy when bands and artists release new music but SO MUCH gets lost in the shuffle.
- Deathcore bands be deathcoring I’m not discriminating a genre but maybe I am. I randomly saw deathcore vocalists getting kicked out for speaking out politically or doing obscene shit. It’s becoming like pop punk in the sense of vocalists doing randy things unfortunately to minors sometimes. Music is the last thing on minds when people are physically and/or mentally hurt in some shape or form.
- Gatekeeping Its good and bad but overall it’s getting tiring. I joke around alot, have no filter and love to have fun but in the end people will enjoy what they want to. Don’t be a dick. There’s a differenec between educating and gatekeeping.
Thanks for checking out another version of our yearly recap! PVT added favorite video games broadening our horizons a bit and we gave some good and bad opinions of this past year. Morgue Terror and Cave Moth 2024!
