Echoes of a Dying World by Eyesawgod

Hello Metalheads!  This is John back with another album review, this time an EP that caught my ear.  Echoes of a Dying World by Eyesawgod came out on January 15, 2025 and is a deathcore release that reminds me a lot of the old school stuff in the genre that got me hooked on it. This whole album sounds angry, obnoxious, ignorant and violent in the best of ways.

This whole work makes me think of old school Suicide Silence, All Shall Perish, Whitechapel, The Acacia Strain or Carnifex specifically.  This is exactly what the band said influenced them when I reached out to ask a few questions.  The band is from Maryland and is comprised of 5 members.

This release has plenty of great melodic flourishes through out, but they are always followed up with a passage that would make anyone, including their grandmother jump straight into a mosh pit.  The guitarists hold down very well and have quite the range!  The vocals are so diverse and frankly all over the place, but in a good way.  The highs, lows and mid level vocals all sound fantastic!  The drummer sounds great and has to be contributing with a bass drop pad on the side of his kit.  The bass drops are early and often for accents all over the place.  The EP does have three features from different vocalists as well.

The first track called GAZA really gets this piece of music started in a brutal way.  It starts off with a passage brings me back to old school deathcore with a quick intro sample or recorded voice over before jumping right into the action with full force.  The first riff is a very unsettling chug that alternates between a tremolo note that is bent up then down.  The vocals join in over this and sound monstrous and pissed off.  The main riff has some melodic elements but have so many abrasive chugging sections that constantly break it up.  After this the first section returns but that breaks right down into a slow crushing breakdown.  This continues but gets even slower with some really nicely done arpeggios for a great touch as the song ends.

My favorite track off of this short and sweet EP is Lacrimosa(featuring Yan Blanchette).  This track totally caught me off guard and made me think that I was listening to a different album at first listen.  It starts off with a vocal lead passage that turns into a tremolo played guitar riff with blast beats.  The next section has a melodic yet thrashy feel and riff, then out of seemingly nowhere they drop a breakdown on the listener.  This has a brutal bass drop then gets slower still after that.  The beginning section repeats but instead of turning into the thrash section they drop another bone crushing breakdown.  This gets even slower dragging us through the mud or whatever hellish environment you can think of.  That is one crazy way to end an EP.

This whole EP is short, sweet and to the point in every way.  This is by far the best old school deathcore(OSDC?) influenced opus that I’ve heard in quite some time.  This gets an easy 10/10 in my books and will be in constant rotation for a long time.  As always don’t forget to stream and buy what we write about here at Technical Music Review!  Links to all of their social platforms will be listed below.
